Menopause and Your Sleep

What is menopause?

Menopause is when a woman stops having periods, it occurs in most women between 45 and 55 years of age, although the early onset of menopause can start many many years before, and can cause major changes in many aspects of life from sex to sleeping patterns.

Menopause symptoms include night sweats, hot flushes and sometimes, vaginal dryness, and changes in mood. This is due to the reduction of the hormone estrogen.

Combating the symptoms of this change can sometimes require changes of normal routines to include better nutrition, increased exercise, or in extreme cases medication such as HRT (hormone replacement therapy) may be suggested by a qualified medical practitioner.
If confirmation of menopause onset is required a blood test may be the best indicator.

What are the potential health problems that can occur over with menopause over a longer timescale?

The reduction in estrogen in the female body can sometimes lead to wellbeing issues as women age. Some are listed below:

Menopause can make women more susceptible to the following problems:

  1. Heart Disease
  2. Osteoporosis
  3. Reduced muscle tone
  4. Increased exposure to Alzheimer’s disease
  5. Vision difficulties including macular degeneration and cataracts
  6. Bladder and bowel problems

Sleep issues become all the more important at this stage of life and night sweats and hot flushes can be helped by the natural air circulation UNDER THE BODY provided by the Zonesleep topper which will assist in allowing perspiration to dissipate.

Additionally, it can provide something no mattress can: Due to its lightweight and quick-drying, regular washing is not only feasible, but it’s also easy and quick using the washing machine or bathtub for larger toppers.
