SLEEP LOSS CAN MAKE YOU ILL?

(P.S. IT CAN ALSO MAKE YOU FAT)

Researchers have been discovering more and more facts about the function of sleep in maintaining a healthy body.

Recent discoveries include the practical physiological repairs that are carried out during sleep. These include re-balancing hormones and insulin levels critical for optimum daytime activities.

This can be directly linked to the disruption of the insulin processing capacity of the body. This capacity is lowered by a reduction of sleeping hours or by disrupted sleep patterns causing higher levels of sugar in the blood.

There is also the potential for increased food intake resulting from hormone released that stimulate the need to eat.

Obviously, wandering about the house, unable to sleep also provides more time to raid the fridge to while away the time!

Additional tests have provided some evidence that less fat is lost by those deprived of regular sleeping patterns or inadequate sleep caused by, for example snoring, which whilst it does not wake the person snoring, does disrupt their sleep – not to mention that of partners!!

To sum up, the value of 8 hours sleep on a regular basis can ensure you live longer and you won’t need to replace your mattress so often as it won’t be overloaded!
